Rising star Black Sherif and Nigerian afrobeat singer-songwriter Fireboy DML have teamed up for the release of the uplifting new collaborative single So It Goes.
This is the first time the two have ever worked together on a track, and it comes ahead of Black Sherif’s strongly anticipated third studio album Iron Boy, rumoured for a release in the first half of 2025.
This effortlessly conscious and highly self-reflective track follows the 23-year-old BET winner’s previous single 'Lord I’m Amazed', released on January 14th and currently sitting at number 10 on the UK Afrobeats chart.
In 'So It Goes', the artist formerly known as Blacko sings not with arrogance, but with confidence over a powerful but equally relaxed instrumental line. He reflects triumphantly on his turbulent journey to success, which began in Konongo, a gold bar
mining community in the Ashanti region of southern Ghana. He uses this song to showcase his determination and vision in a manner that is both passionate and thoughtful.
Likewise, MOBO Award nominee Fireboy DML uses his verse to proudly reflect on his life and career, singing with pride and gratitude about how hard he’s worked to look after his family and make his mother happy. The 28 year old artist, who grew up singing in his local church choir in Ogun, will be performing a special showcase of his fourth and most recent LP Adedamola at the Royal Albert Hall on April 16.
The pair’s vocals interchange seamlessly on the track, with each artist using their own unique style to enrich it. Not only does it give us a lot to look forward to, but it serves as a reminder (if any was needed) of the unstoppable, meteoric rise that the Afrobeats
genre has seen over the last decade.
