BODUR DROPS 'TONY MADONNA [DADA]' AND ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM 'MAQAM'

London's alt-electronic artist BODUR has dropped 'Tony Madonna [DADA]', a striking single ahead of her debut album 'Maqam', out 21 March 2025.

Produced by Tokyo-based Lapsung, the track is a sharp, satirical protest against the formulaic "lead single" concept often seen in mainstream albums. Drawing inspiration from the Dadaism art movement, BODUR confronts industry expectations head-on with layered experimental production and biting social commentary.

The accompanying video, crafted by visual director Furmaan Ahmed, forms part of a 35-minute album film designed to extend 'Maqam''s themes visually. The visuals blend surrealism with personal storytelling, furthering BODUR's reputation for pushing creative boundaries. BODUR explains:

"I set out to create a lead single as absurd and nonsensical as the current state of the world. The track is an act of resistance, questioning the industry's demands for forced commercialism."

The North West London artist channels her Irish, Middle Eastern, and South Asian roots into her sound, using maqam - an Arabic modal musical system - to shape the emotional core of her songs, signalled in the brackets next to each title.

BODUR’s upcoming album doesn't just experiment with sound but dives deep into themes of racism, Islamophobia, and generational trauma, offering a rare blend of personal storytelling and broader social commentary.

Visually and sonically cohesive, 'Maqam' is shaping up to be a powerful statement, with BODUR continuing to challenge the boundaries of music and art.
