Los Angeles-based artist davey, known for his distinctive sound and innovative approach to music, has released his latest single, ‘2 Chant’. Following a string of monthly releases, ‘2 Chant’ showcases davey’s ability to blend diverse musical influences into a cohesive and compelling track.
‘2 Chant’ is a vibrant addition to davey’s evolving discography, characterised by its unique fusion of crisp percussion and Persian instrumentation. Exmpllyfying davey’s signature jagged-edged sound, reminiscent of the drum-heavy styles of Ahadadream and DJ Plead, combined with the danceable quality of Leon Vynehall’s Rojus era. Discussing the inspiration behind ‘2 Chant’, davey shares,
“The track is built around two chants - a kids’ soccer chant asking the sports gods for a win, and a Farsi chant warning against material pride. These contrasting elements reflect my material desires and spiritual understanding that such desires lead to unhappiness. Bringing together these opposite ideas into one cohesive piece of music is what excites me as an artist. ‘2 Chant’ allowed me to integrate my musical influences, from UKG and bluegrass to dubstep and traditional Persian music.”
David Ansari first gained recognition as one-half of the electronic music duo Vallis Alps, which emerged in 2015 with their self-titled debut EP. The duo's success led Ansari to relocate to Sydney, Australia, and they performed at major festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, Groovin The Moo, and Spilt Milk. After the band took a break in 2017, Ansari launched his solo project, davey, exploring darker, more abrasive sounds that contrast with the ethereal indie-pop of Vallis Alps.
With ‘2 Chant’, davey continues to push the boundaries of his sound, blending cultural influences and musical genres to create something truly unique. As he moves forward with his solo career, fans can look forward to more innovative and genre-defying music from this talented artist.
