Described by the Wall Street Journal as “among modern music's most compelling vocalists,” GANAVYA, the New York-born, Tamil Nadu-raised singer and transdisciplinarian, continues to captivate audiences with her singular style that seamlessly blends spiritual jazz and South Asian influences.

"draw something beautiful," isn't a new song. Instead, it's a composition GANAVYA wrote in her youth, inspired by mythologies she grew up with. GANAVYA recalls

"I wrote it as a child to say, ‘If I die, could you take the life force in me and redistribute it among the remaining humans to make them happier?’"

The song resurfaced unexpectedly during a visit to China’s Dunhuang Caves with Peter Sellars in preparation for her role as the Goddess in a 2019 production. Despite suffering a traumatic injury the night before, GANAVYA found herself singing "draw something beautiful" for the first time in years, spurred by a spontaneous chorus from her companions.

This moment marked the beginning of GANAVYA's recording journey with Frahm, producing an ethereal soundscape where her voice floats delicately amidst Frahm's minimalist arrangement. Following "draw something beautiful," the duo recorded "ami pana so'dras," an old Kashmiri song GANAVYA often hums to herself. The recording session was marked by an effortless synergy between GANAVYA and Frahm, culminating in a hauntingly beautiful track characterized by sustained notes and a quiet drone.

Despite her illustrious collaborations and academic achievements, "draw something beautiful" represents a profound personal connection for GANAVYA.

“This might be the first time in my life I’m releasing something of mine that I feel fully connected to. The second I started speaking to LEITER, I felt like my bones could rest. The greatest gift that they have already given me is that I now believe a bearable, perhaps even beautiful future is possible.”

With "draw something beautiful," GANAVYA and Nils Frahm deliver a powerful, serene anthem that promises to resonate deeply with listeners, marking a significant milestone in GANAVYA's artistic journey.
