British rap royalty Krept & Konan have just dropped Smooth Lovin, an Afrobeat and dancehall-inspired single featuring Jamaican sensation Popcaan, setting the stage for their highly anticipated third studio album, Young Kingz II.
Produced by P2J - known for his work with icons like Beyoncé and Wizkid - the track channels rich Caribbean and Afrobeat vibes, with Popcaan’s signature hooks blending seamlessly with Krept & Konan’s vivid storytelling. Created during a month-long recording stint in Jamaica, Smooth Lovin connects the duo with their cultural roots, a fusion fans can feel through the music and the tropical visuals directed by Harry Guest.
For Krept & Konan, Smooth Lovin is just a taste of what’s to come with Young Kingz II. This latest project is steeped in the spirit of their trailblazing 2013 Young Kingz mixtape, the release that propelled them into the UK Top 20 as the highest-charting unsigned act at the time, a record-breaking move that marked them as British rap pioneers.
On the road to this upcoming album, they recently reignited their freestyle tradition, with Krept teaming up with Chip for Daily Duppy: New Snap City, and Konan’s Last Night in Kingston, a sequel to his 2016 freestyle Last Night in LA. Both tracks have generated intense anticipation, reminding fans why Krept & Konan are iconic voices in UK rap.
Scheduled to release on February 7, 2025, Young Kingz II celebrates Krept & Konan’s journey, capturing both their roots and growth, as well as their dedication to pushing the boundaries of UK music. With a launch event set for March 6, 2025, at Outernet London, this album will be their first since the 2019 chart-topping Revenge Is Sweet, a project that solidified their status with a sold-out O2 headline performance and made them the first British rap act to achieve that milestone.
From their history-making mixtapes 7 Days and 7 Nights, which made UK chart history by landing both tapes in the Top 10 simultaneously, to their genre-defining collaborations with everyone from Stormzy to Jorja Smith, Krept & Konan’s career continues to push the limits of British rap.
Young Kingz II promises to be another chapter in their story of breaking records, pushing UK music into new terrain, and showing why they remain a monumental force.
