Rising London-based artist Lilah Pi returns with her vibrant new single “What You Say”, an indie-pop anthem celebrating self-liberation and defiance of societal expectations.
Written with J Warner, Chris, and Humble, 'What You Say' is an autobiographical reflection on living life freely, without feeding into the misconceptions others have about her. Lilah’s bold statement of independence echoes throughout the catchy pop production, which encapsulates her carefree spirit. Speaking about the song, Lilah shares,
“I feel like as a woman who is quite liberated, there is always a misconception about me. Yes, I’m hot, but more importantly, I’m smart, goofy, and emotionally intelligent. I just want people to know I don’t care anymore how they preconceive me. I love the woman I am and the woman I am constantly evolving into.”
“What You Say” also arrives with an exuberant visual that matches the energy of the track. The accompanying video captures Lilah Pi as she runs away with the love of her life to Ibiza, with footage shot entirely on Super 8 film directed by Oscar J Ryan. The grainy, fly-on-the-wall approach adds a nostalgic touch, with the romantic visuals honing in on the beauty and cinema of their surroundings.
The release follows Lilah’s previous single “Stone” featuring Bakar, where she drew on Greek mythology for inspiration, signalling a fresh era of bold and reflective music from the artist. Her newest material showcases a more confident and carefree side of Lilah, diving into personal themes of love, freedom, and self-awareness.
