The East London newcomer’s sizzling debut project chronicles modern-day love atop sultry R&B melodies.

When head-on with love and its tribulations, many are lucky enough to have friends that will lend an ear; however, our second best confidant is often music, where spending time with the stories of another leaves us feeling seen.
For those who may take comfort in the latter, the latest offering from East London newcomer Liét is an exciting project to dive headfirst into. Liét’s debut EP, titled ‘Been Here Before’, recounts the ins and outs of the modern-day love story and the complex situationships many of us find ourselves falling into time and time again. The 7-track project is sensual, confident, and rooted in bright melodies, lending itself highly to the UK’s refreshing R&B scene.
The project opens with ‘Bad Thing’, a mellow ode to lovers whose attention lies elsewhere—a story truly as old as time. The track's delicate rhythm sets the tone for the R&B journey about to ensue. With this same uplifting energy continues ‘Just a Girl’, where Liét chronicles a relationship gone sour.
Liét explains, “I wrote this project as a way to express what I was feeling and going through whilst making sense of it all. These records are all personal experiences and ironically recurring cycles that I know a lot of people can relate to and have been in before, so my hope is for my music to speak to them and that they feel seen when they hear it.”

As we follow the London songstress through the project, it feels like being a fly on the wall for every sneaky link, text, and date she encounters in the EP, as she reflects on each story, hurting, growing, and thriving in tandem. Tracks like ‘Come Find Me’ and ‘Taboo’ take us to a dreamy evenings, with Liét boasting her sweet and soulful vocals, and making her perfect for fans of Summer Walker and H.E.R.
Between her love of Brandy and Destiny’s Child, and her youth raised on gospel music and church choir, Liét’s inspirations shine true in this project as she crafts a mix of dazzling melodies and expansive vocals. ‘Been Here Before’ bares startling resemblance to the iPhone notes pages that accompany heartbreak, and with its sharp and authentic lyricism, Liét provides you with lines to steal should you ever need to fire back at romantic disrespect.
