Master Peace, the alternative maverick taking the UK scene by storm, drops new single ‘Start You Up’.
Continuing his run of excellent singles, Master Peace delivers again with this alternative anthem. The stand out element of this song is undoubtedly the earworm hook, with its falsetto “Ooh’s” and “I got another chance to start you up”. This chorus has to be one of our favourites of the year so far. The track carries the energy of a 2000’s alt classic, a sound that cannot be pulled off convincingly by many. Master Peace’s sound feels rebellious and cantankerous in the best possible way.
This song, like many of his others, can immediately be imagined in a live setting, where with live instrumentation it would transmit a fantastic energy. There is a lot to celebrate about this track. The fizzling bassline, courtesy of producer Matt Schwartz, is particularly deserving of praise.
Master Peace is gearing up to embark on his headline UK tour in March, which will culminate in a London show at the legendary Scala. Alongside this he has announced his debut album to be released on March 1st, titled ‘How To Make A Master Peace’.
The artist seems to be on a mission to shake up the scene, and redefine our imaginings of a superstar. The album rollout feels as though it’s being done with care and consideration, with all artwork being done by highly acclaimed photographer Ewan Spencer.
The visuals for this are also well worth checking out, with Peace disrupting a boring domestic scene and igniting a dance party. Sonically and visually, this young artist is captivating a lot of people right now. 2024 is quietly shaping up to be the year of Master Peace, and ‘Start You Up’ is a wonderful way to begin that.
