Miso Extra is back with “Ghostly,” an R&B-infused track from her highly anticipated debut album, Earcandy, arriving on 16 May.

Co-written with the innovative A.K. Paul (known for his work with Jai Paul, Jessie Ware, and Nao), the single melds glitchy production, hypnotic melodies, and bilingual vocals. Influences of Janet Jackson’s sensuality and Solange’s ethereal sound are clear, but Miso’s signature genre-bending approach is at the core of this track.
“Ghostly is about returning to your senses and regaining agency,” Miso explains. “The mood of the song came about when A.K. Paul and I were chatting about our shared love for Janet Jackson and Solange.”
The animated visualiser for “Ghostly,” directed by Taku Mikami and edited by Shea McChrystal, offers an atmospheric, dream-like representation of the song’s themes.
Written and recorded during summer 2024 with Grammy-winning engineer Ricky Damian at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13, Earcandy explores love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. The album draws from K-pop, UK Garage, ’80s sounds, and R&B to create a self-aware pop record. Miso describes the project as “sweet earcandy that helps the medicine go down,” referencing its deeper messages of growth and vulnerability.Miso credits Damian as a mentor throughout the recording process.
“He was my Mr. Miyagi. I learned so much from him. Plus, working in Studio 13 was inspiring since I’m such a Gorillaz fan. You can channel the energy of artists like Erykah Badu and Paul McCartney who have recorded there.”
With Earcandy promising an innovative mix of genres and emotional storytelling, Miso Extra is poised for her next breakthrough.
