Shivani Day is Back With Brooding ‘Know When You Call’

Blending Dancehall, Reggae, Trip-Hop, and Electronica on her latest single, the London-hailing Shivani Day delivers a space-age ode to ‘crying in the club.’

Having released her debut EP That Which Is Not back in 2024, London-based artist Shivani Day has continually spliced and dissected different genres and sonics, bridging the current alternative UK scene and her own heritage. The result is a sound that fuses elements of Electronica, Trip-Hop, Jazz, and Alt R&B, harvesting an eclectic musical palette with traditional South Asian sounds. While her catalogue turns heads for its sonic singularity, Shivani requires all eyes and ears as she aims to capture a full and layered picture with her output. With a sensitivity to music’s connection to fashion and film, Shivani is invested in every facet of her work’s creative direction. Now, in her first single of 2025, she delivers a futuristic ode “to the girls crying in the club” on ‘Know When You Call’. This latest release, co-produced with long-term collaborator Minas, finds common ground between Dancehall, Reggae, and Electronica, as Shivani plays with the image of a space-age dance floor overloaded with spectral lights and refractions, a glimmering metallic backdrop, and a smoke screen between the listener and her vocals.

“I wanted to write from the perspective of having a conversation with yourself when you know that you should listen to your mind over your heart and the emotions one goes through during this process. Big crying in the club energy—almost an inner monologue trying to convince yourself not to go back to someone or something," she explains about Know When You Call.

With this latest single setting the tone, Shivani Day gears up for an impactful 2025, preparing for a conceptual EP at the end of the year, sure to surpass her already impressive artistic standards.
