LA-based French-Korean artist spill tab (Claire Chicha) has shared details of her much-anticipated debut album Angie, alongside a new video for the title track.
Featuring lush, organic instrumentation and vintage synth textures, the single was co-produced by Chicha, John Hill, and Solomonophonic and premiered on Jack Saunders’ BBC Radio 1 show. Set to drop on 16 May via, Angie is a 12-track exploration of Chicha’s diverse musical influences, veering from the glitchy, pitched-up vocals of opener “PINK LEMONADE” to the sultry, grunge-tinged “De Guerre” and euphoric guitar solos on the title track.
“I love this collection of songs so deeply,” Chicha explains. “They feel more honest than anything I’ve made in a long time. It’s special to hear all these experiences—love, loss, rejection, passion—all coexisting together as a cumulation of these last few years of my life.”
Spill tab burst onto the scene with her debut single “Decompose,” evolving her project through three EPs. Her 2020 release Oatmilk leaned into synth-pop, while 2021’s Bonnie featured collaborations with Gus Dapperton and Tommy Genesis. 2023’s Klepto showcased her love for intricate, genre-fluid production, shifting from the jazz-inspired chaos of “CRÈME BRÛLÉE!” to the rock-forward thump of “Splinter.”
Chicha began working on Angie without expectations, collaborating with an LA-based circle that includes producer David Marinelli and John DeBold. She approached the album as an exploration of new sounds and styles, resulting in everything from the bossa nova romance of “Hold Me” to the earthy funk of “Assis” and the atmospheric electronics of “Doesn’t That Scare You.”
With four 'Hottest Record' accolades and multiple live sessions at BBC Radio 1’s Maida Vale Studios, spill tab has already established herself as an artist to watch. As we await the release of Angie, it’s clear that spill tab is embracing complete creative freedom. All we have to do now is listen.
