SQUID RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'BUILDING 650' AHEAD OF THIRD ALBUM

Squid continue to break creative ground with 'Building 650', the latest single from their third studio album Cowards.

The track dives into themes of cultural alienation and quiet isolation, inspired by frontman Ollie Judge’s first trip to Japan in 2022. Judge describes the unique loneliness he felt in Tokyo, a city visually overwhelming but eerily silent, a contrast mirrored in the track's intricate yet cohesive sound.

The song's complexity feels central to Squid’s evolving identity, with layered rhythms and shifting dynamics making it both intense and captivating. Its accompanying video, shot in Japan, deepens the mood. Longtime collaborator Felix Geen worked with local directors Daisuke Hasegawa and Kuya Tatsujo to capture expansive urban shots, softened by raw, 8mm footage.

Cowards, recorded at Church Studios with Marta Salogni and Grace Banks, promises a dynamic sonic range. Featuring contributions from Clarissa Connelly, Tony Njoku, and the Ruisi Quartet, the album explores bold, experimental soundscapes while staying rooted in Squid's signature style.

The band will hit the road for a UK headline tour starting 17 February at Liverpool’s Invisible Wind Factory, with stops in Manchester, Glasgow, and London’s Roundhouse on 26 April.

Cowards drops 7 February 2025, with 'Building 650' solidifying Squid’s reputation for pushing creative limits.
