Sunday (1994)

Bursting onto the scene earlier this year, Sunday (1994) have quickly captured the hearts of music lovers on both sides of the Atlantic. Their latest single, ‘TV Car Chase’, is a perfect example of why this band is rapidly gaining a dedicated following. Dropping as part of their extended deluxe EP, set to release on September 6th, the song dives into the band's signature mix of dark humour and hopeless romanticism, painting a vivid picture of love and mental struggle.

The band’s frontwoman Paige Turner and guitarist Lee Newell craft lyrics that are both poignant and provocatively clever. Lines like “It’s gonna take more than nuclear war to tear me away from you” and the morose middle eight motif, “My head’s in the oven”, show their knack for juxtaposing classic songwriting with modern, sometimes stark themes. Addressing mental health head-on with lines like “I swallowed SSRI need you,” ‘TV Car Chase’ becomes more than just a song—it’s a commentary on survival and the small moments of connection that make it worthwhile.

"TV Car Chase is a snapshot into the living room of two people who are surviving their own mental war. Something as small as sitting on the couch together can heal so much,”

Sunday (1994) first made waves in May with their self-titled EP, capturing a growing fanbase thanks to their nostalgic yet fresh sound. Their debut single, ‘Tired Boy’, introduced listeners to their world with confessional, tongue-in-cheek lyrics over melancholic guitar riffs. It was a sparkling entry into their universe, quickly followed by ‘Stained Glass Window’, a euphoric declaration of love filled with 80s and 90s nostalgia.

The band’s story is as captivating as their music. Formed by Paige Turner from California and Lee Newell from Slough, UK, they embody the fusion of different worlds. Their music, written and recorded in their one-bedroom apartment, feels like stepping into a beautifully shot film. Together with their enigmatic drummer ‘X’, Sunday (1994) creates soundtracks for life’s most cinematic moments—whether it’s tears on a bedroom floor or the magic of a first touch.

As Sunday (1994) continues to unfold their story, ‘TV Car Chase’ stands as a testament to their unique voice—a darkly humorous, romantically charged anthem for the modern age.
