Self-written, produced and performed, 'Catharsis' sees Swedish-Grammy-nominated Venus Anon explore relationships over alternative R&B production.
Spanning 4 tracks, Venus Anon explores 4 relationships closer to her, not always romantic, she looks at the intricacies of trust, betrayal, and discovery. 'Catharsis' stands as an apt title, as the explorative nature of her songs highlights her journey of self-discovery. The soundbed to the narrative of each track is an active choice by Venus, providing transformative soundscapes reflective of the undercurrents of each of the relationships, in her own words;
"It’s messy, chaotic, and at times, I felt like my own hostage in the studio, pushing myself through a process I couldn’t escape.”
The topic of relationships has been a contentious one for Venus. As a queer individual, of Iranian heritage, she bridges two worlds that have, historically, not been of the same understanding. By speaking openly about relationships—whether familial, romantic, or societal—her music creates space for underrepresented stories and provides solace and visibility for those who see their own experiences mirrored in her work. This candid approach not only amplifies marginalised voices but also fosters dialogue about love, acceptance, and identity across diverse audiences.
Venus Anon stands out as a talented creative bringing light to subjects that have previously lacked discussion, and through her captivating vocal performances and distinctive production, her output provides huge excitement. This new EP is a wonderful entry point to her work, with sincere lyricism, as well as a stand-out feature from Denzel Himself.
